Lorene Mah from Glitter & Spice

I am very excited to start Collaboration series with the Christmas feature on Lorene Mah, owner of Glitter & Spice, modern teething jewelry for mamas and their babies. Her trademark Cookie teether is one smart & stylish accessory both Leo and I fell in love with immediately. It looks just like the real cookie, and makes teething so photogenic and fun! Customized with a red bead for Leonardo (because red is our favorite color!), you can find it featured at the DOL shop here (use coupon code “xmas2015” for 10% discount valid until December 21st)

Please meet Lorene and her beautiful family! And check out other beautiful products she has at: http://www.glitterandspice.ca

– How did you start your business? What was the idea behind it?

I was inspired by my darling beaver of a son. Noah was THE definition of a teething baby! Needless to say, I was unprepared. I immediately scoured the shops for the perfect teething accessory, but I came back disappointed. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and started creating stylish teething jewelry for the modern day mom that are safe and fun for babies to chew!

– What’s your moving force in life?

William Faulkner said it best. “Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Do not bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.”

– How would you describe your esthetics?

I’m a simple girl. I love classic and minimalistic designs and gravitate towards a neutral and monochromatic color scheme (Lucky for me this is on trend. Ha!)

– What is the most challenging in being a  parent?

Exhaustion. They always keep you on your toes with their unlimited energy supply! I’d like to know where they get it from because I could really use some! While there are MANY difficult things about being a parent, I’d have to say I’m beyond grateful for the chance. They truly push you to be the best version of yourself

– What is the most rewarding in being a parent?

Motherhood is the largest blessing I have ever and will ever receive – this I know for sure! Children are the most precious gift and are the definition of pure unconditional love. Watching them grow and discover themselves is one of the most rewarding parts of being a parent.

– One must-have baby item you can recommend?

Every baby is different but one thing holds true. They all get teeth! Let’s be honest, we blame just about everything on teething! They are cranky. Teething. They didn’t sleep well. Teething. They are sniffly. Teething. So my answer will have to be teething accessories. =)

– Your favorite childhood memory?

I don’t know if I have a favorite childhood memory, but this one came to mind.

We moved a lot when I was little and was always going to different schools. I always describe myself as a shy person in a new environment but my girlfriend likes to remind that in the first few days of my arrival in my new school, I follow her home and chatted her ear off. I then fearlessly asked her for her number when we parted ways one day. She admits that reluctantly gave it to me because she thought I was a little strange for being so exuberant and forward. But I am glad she did because we chatted for hours the first time I called her and did so each and every day after that.  I often look back at this memory and remind myself that sometimes you just have to put yourself out there. You just never know what you might get.
